Members of the ReCLEAN team participated in the prestigious Goldschmidt 2025 Conference held in Prague, sharing their latest research on nitrogen dynamics in agroecosystems and groundwater.
Jize Jiang presented a talk titled âTowards sustainable agroecosystems: reducing nitrogen lossesâ, highlighting progress in Switzerlandâs transition to more sustainable agricultural practices. His work, based on advanced modelling studies, explores strategies to minimize nitrogen losses while maintaining productivity. Read abstract

Gustavo Covatti delivered a talk on âInvestigating anthropogenic and climate factors driving groundwater nitrate concentrationsâ. His presentation examined how human activities and climate variability influence nitrate levels in groundwater, providing insights critical for water quality management. Read abstract

Lenny Winkel, co-principal investigator of ReCLEAN, also attended the conference, and gave a presentation entitled “Marine and Terrestrial Sources of Methylated Arsenic Species in Atmospheric Deposition“.
Their contributions support ReCLEANâs mission to holistically understand and quantify nitrogen fluxes in response to energy transitions, climate change, and other driversâoffering robust, science-based guidance for future scenarios and environmental policy in Switzerland.
