ReCLEAN at the Swiss Geoscience Meeting 2024

At the 22nd Swiss Geoscience Meeting 2024, held on November 8-9 in Basel, Dr. Fengxia Bao from the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and Dr. Jize Jiang from ETH Zurich introduced the ReCLEAN Joint Initiative.

Dr. Bao’s talk, “Elucidating the Role of Brown Carbon in HONO and NOx Production from Renoxification of Nitrate-Containing Particles”, explored the role of brown carbon aerosols in atmospheric nitrogen chemistry, revealing its contribution to the formation of key pollutants like nitrous acid (HONO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Dr. Jiang’s presentation, “An Urgent Need for Integrated Measurements of N Fluxes and Complete Modelling of N Balance”, underscored the necessity for holistic approaches to nitrogen flux measurements and ecosystem modeling to effectively address nitrogen pollution.

Together, their work under the ReCLEAN initiative sets a foundation for innovative solutions to nitrogen-related environmental challenges, advancing sustainable practices in air quality and ecosystem management.
